Morning Glory

Garden Club - Our garden club won a night at the Bailey - Tebault House! We had lots of fun and thanks to Blair, it was a stress-free set-up/clean-up.

The Easter Bunny and a Black Eye

It’s official – Lillee Grace likes giant animal figures that she was once deathly afraid of and Baxter has become a boy and has had his 1st black eye. Tuesday night while fighting with the princess about which redneck nylon nightgown she was dawning, Baxter fell on her wooden table and hit the corner of his eye. Immediately, he screamed that painful scream and a huge “blood blister” (that’s what they call it in the south) appeared. Poor thing. So I’ve tried to capture a picture of this.

Wednesday night was our Egg Hunt at church. Lillee Grace looked so cute when she was at school yesterday with her green/white polka dotted skirt with frilly white tank. However, when I arrived home to pick her up she was in none other than her Cracker Barrel dress from LAST year with tights and some canvas paisley Mary Janes. I know this may bore you the reader; however, I must document these outfits in order to let her know later in life how much stress she caused me about clothing issues. We compromised and thankfully I got the tights off of her. She had a blast running to pick up eggs. This was probably the 1st year that she truly appreciated the egg hunt. Scott unfortunately missed it because he was attending yet another “Memorials Committee” meeting. I guess that's Pete's Pool Room is now called.

March 26, 2007

After our Saturday adventure to Atlanta, we had to take a brief respite before starting our week. Saturday a.m. while the cleaning crew was here we headed up to REI. Scott wanted to go look at kayak stuff but I have to admit that I knew they were having a sale and I wanted my own North Face jacket and LG needed some shoes for the beach. After getting lost (the man has only been there about 4 or 5 times) and sitting in traffic, we arrived there 2 hours later. I was hesitant to purchase the Cliff bar LG snagged from the shelf but 2 1/2 hours later in the car while Baxter was screaming for food, I was glad she grabbed it. We sat in traffic for awhile and Scott had the briliant idea of getting off 75 in Riverdale then going to Fayetteville. It was a scorcher and as we drove through Fayetteville, he commented that if only we didn't have a shower (I missed it), a birthday party at 2:00 (got there at 2:30), a Sunday School cookout at 5:00 and two kids in the backseat, we could sit outside on the patio of La Parilla and drink margaritas all afternoon. Reality check: not happening anytime soon in say, the next 18 years.

Taking both kids to the outlet mall solo yesterday also proved to be entertaining. LG needed Easter shoes and we got them with minimal drama. I wanted to run in the Children's Place to look for some shorts for her. She stood outside with her hands on her hips and commanded she was not coming in the store. I kept walking inside while keeping one eye on her. Then, she came sailing through the front door and landed flat of her face. I finally just put the children in the car and went to my surrogate mother Theresa's house in Jackson to visit. She had no beverages on hand for me but she had just finished the coolest cake recipe I've heard of. Yellow cake mix in a 9 x 13 pan. Bake and then poke holes in it. Pour strawberry jello into cake and top with cool whip and strawberries. Mmmmm.

Starting off the week I had parent conferences at school from 2-6. Meeting with parents is so different now that I have kids of my own. It's tough. Gearing up for the CRCT!!! I pulled in the driveway at 6:10, left the car running and Scott headed back to church. Two ships passing in the night.

First Steps

March 22, 2007 - Baxter took his first steps. Scott came home early and we were all outside. I put Baxter down thinking he'd plop down and take off crawling. Instead, he just stood there for about 5 seconds while I screamed for Lillee Grace and Scott to look! I jumped in front of him and held out my hands and he took about 3 or 4 steps towards me. It was great! Now we'll see if he'll do it again?
Meanwhile, we made a trip to see Dr. Banks today. Call me Mrs. Munchausen by Proxy or whatever it's called but when Mary told me that she thought Lillee Grace had worms it freaked me out. Fortunately for us and LG, she does not. Just a mild case of OCD. Wonder where that came from? As usual, Dr. Banks assured us that we were fine and that it was such a joy to see us in the office with normal little Baxter. I tried the love and logic during LG's meltdown in the office but it was one of those tantrums when nothing works!

For the Luck of Nascar

I had to share these pics - especially the one of Baxter's crocs. My parents got him those for his birthday and he loves them. There's nothing cuter than a man in his crocs. The other pics are of our action-packed St. Patrick's Day race weekend. After shopping in Macon with my mom and the kids on Saturday, Scott and I headed over to Stanley manor for an Irish jig or two. It was a great mix of people and we really enjoyed ourselves. I hope Niki will forgive me soon but I really thought the rule was to be fashionably late? Still trying to figure out why Jimmy Buffet was playing and the invitation said "no snakes."

Bright and early Sunday morning we were off to the races. That's right, my dad, Scott and I put our #3 flag on the sedan and got in the spirit. I know it may be a little cras (sp.?) but I had to get the plumber's crack - this man was inviting himself to be snapped by the kodak! Little did I know that Scott and my dad actually go to watch the race. This was the first race that I haven't been
either birthing a child or attached to them with

a Medela breast
pump. The other
races I've been to
we have sat on top of the camper in the infield and let me tell you it's an experience. You are more cultured after leaving there than
you'd think. So, as we sat in our "great seats" at the start/finish
line and my dad and Scott sat hooked up to their Nextel scanners, I caught up on the celebrity gossip and read my People magazine. I did buy one collectible I must say I'm proud of: a t-shirt that says "Drive it like you stole it." If I go to another one, it's a must wear with a pair of Bongos!

Mexican Fiesta (last hoora)

Cigar afficianado picture of the year - complete with Cohibas and one dork that thinks he's Fidel that brought them!

This past weekend Amy had her last hoora at a Mexican fiesta in Macon. We were a little late but Paula, John, Rene', Brenna, Scott and I traveled down along with some of the best Coronas the corner grocery had to offer. What a house and the decorations were too cool. Got lots of ideas and I'm ready to have an end of the year school Mexican bash now. We had a great time and meeting Clay's family was fun. I can tell the wedding is going to be a blast. I had a great time hanging out with Clay's dad and writing a list of restaurants for him to visit when he returned to St. Simons on Monday. He's working down there right now so I had to let him know who to ask for at Gnat's and where to get the best shrimp in Darien. I can tell we'll be great pals at the wedding. What an exciting time for Amy and Clay!

Year #1 for BSK

Baxter is 1!!!!! Wow! I cannot believe it's already been a year. With Lillee Grace, it seemed like I prayed each night for God to speed things up a bit. However, with Bax it seems like just yesterday the hospital was calling at 5:30 a.m. to wake me up and say come have a baby. He's been such an easy baby, just a bit of a drool box. I think he's been having teething issues since two months old. I knew when he chewed up the UPS boxes that we were in for it. Lillee Grace always loathes someone to bother her big brown truck shipments. Baxter's small, intimate gathering included none other than Bo and Sarah. It was such a nice day so we played in the yard for a long time. Bo and LG love riding Baxter in the car playing music! We ordered a pizza (ok, three and some wings) and Scott brought home the Thomas cake big enough to feed an Angelina Jolie mission project. The women of Futral Road will be happy to see me walk through the doors in the a.m. with a ziploc full of black olive pizza and 10,000 calories of blue Thomas icing. Bax opened presents and got an Elmo/Cookie Monster ball that wiggles, a Curious George that glows in the dark (per Scott) and a cool Thomas train that choo choos when you push it. That was by far his favorite gift because it was just the right height for him to push as he crawls along. And no, he did not walk on his first birthday. When it came time for the cake, he looked like a monster. Lillee Grace never tore into her cake that way. It was in his hair, ears, eyes. We finally took the hose to the patio and I took Bax to the tub so passerbys wouldn't see us bathe our child in a washtub! How exciting to have a one year old little boy now. I know we'll have lots more fun ahead! Love you buddy.

Parenthood

Hopefully, most of the people that are reading this are parents and can relate in some form or fashion.
Tuesday at the Key home:
7:30 - 4:15 WORK

4:15 - 4:25 take Mary home

4:25 - 4:35 LG gets home and discovers she has to use the toilet. Doesn't make it - pee everywhere in bathroom all over her leotard and tights she is supposed to wear to dance in 5 mins. - MAJOR MELTDOWN (takes an extra 2 mins.)

4:35 - doorbell rings - it's my favorite mother of all time - Mrs. Granny bringing LG's birthday present. She lives in Jackson so we don't get to see her often. Adore her and her three children, Abby, Brittany and Kyle.

4:40 - doorbell rings - it's Niki to pick up Lillee Grace for dance. Mind you, I'm still trying to convince her that it's ok to wear the black leotard because now the fuschia one is wet. Yes, you have to wear new tights too.

5:30 - granny says goodbye and gets to see her son come home. Truly a great visit - can't wait til she comes back to sit on the porch in the summer with Abbs babysitting.

6:15 - LG comes home from dance. I put her sweater on and we rush out the door to PTO.

6:30 - 7:00 - PTO - Lillee Grace and I find her skull & crossbones soccer ball that went missing from our yard a week ago. Found in the woods behind my school (sketchy huh!)

7:05 - call Scott to ask about supper to hear this: "Ummm honey, remember those southwestern eggrolls you had for supper last night? Well, I heated them up for Bax and he loved them - ate them all up. THen, ummmm, honey, well I stripped him down for the bath and while I was fixing my Makers and Coke he stinkied (those aren't quite the terms he used) all over the kitchen rug. Then, umm he began to play in it so I took him to the tub where he smeared it everywhere in the tub. Don't worry honey, it's all cleaned up - not a trace in the house. I even think it's up to your cleaning standards - NEVER!"

7:12 - run in Eckerd to buy deoderant and come out with Eckerd soft and dry brand and a lollipop for LG. I don't really even know what I was buying from sheer panic and disgust while still listening to the hazardous conditions at my house.

7:15 - J. Henry's to pick up take out. At this point my mind is a blur. I can't even process what I've just heard nor do I want to think of the toxic waste odor that was filling my house. I could envision the ecoli that was going to give me a big kiss on the cheek when I walked through the door.

7:30 - home. While trying to assess the damage, Lillee Grace was screaming for the Strawberry Shortcake episode Scott had TiVo'd. The remote control which is used to babysit and entertain our child for hours would not work. PANIC. Scott came in and saved the day by making the good ol' "All In One" Wal-Mart special do the big remote's job.

7:45 - sing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Mexican Eggroll" to Baxter to settle his poor stomach and put him to bed.

8:00- LG in bed.

8:15 - eat tilapia sandwich and turn in for the evening. Put Huggies wipes that were on the stove back in the nursery. Put Chlorox wipes that were on Baxter's bed back in the kitchen. Put rug in dryer. Give kitchen floor one last scrub down. So when Amy asks from now on why we are ordering take-out - please refer back to this blog for any clarifications.

Putting up my slingbacks for good!

Sweet Paula (my new mentor) and Lelia (TOTY)

Longtime friend, Amy - thanks for visiting.

Like mother like daughter! The girl of the night!!! My other Amy
and mother of my new princess!

The three FUN sisters: Marla, Amy & Melanie

Since it's been awhile from my last post, there's lots to discuss. First and foremost, the greatest occurrence that happened was last week when the monsoon hit Griffin. The rain would not stop. It was 2:30 a.m. and I awoke to the sound of pouring water. I sat up in bed preparing myself to get buckets and call 1-800-plumber. Then I heard the toilet flush and the sound of little feet pitter patting back to her bedroom. It literally brought tears to my eyes. I couldn't believe my little girl had gotten up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. What a moment! So the other times this week that she's been not so angelic, I try to think back and how big she's getting.

On to Friday night and the bachelorette party of the year. At least it's the only party I"ll be attending for the entire '07 year. Can't take another one. Actually, it was pretty tame. We (5 in our van and 5 in another) went to Virginia Highlands to Atkins Park Restaraunt and Tavern. It is definitely a **** recommendation! Take the kids too! We were seated upstairs and for awhile were the only party up there. One of the bachelorette's friends brought a "challenge" book. I won't go into detail about those except to say everything was legal! We'll just leave it as what happens in the mini-van stays in the mini-van. All parties involved signed disclaimers. Right guys??? One of the highlights of the night was seeing my VBFF Amy Certain. We grew up together and graduated from Glynn Academy together and she was even my maid of honor ALMOST in my first wedding. Now that we're both living in the Atlanta area we never see each other. even though she's a constant figure at Scott's Christmas parties. It was great seeing her and a fun time was had by all. Shout out to Scott: thanks for keeping the children. What a dad.

Recuperating on Saturday took awhile so Scott took LIllee Grace to a birthday party while Baxter and I took a much needed siesta. She overcame her OCD fears and went down the superslide like a maniac. Sorry I missed it. Then it was time to get ready to go at it again as we piled in the party Econoline Van with five other couples to St. George's Get-Away-Gig. We did win a trip to Amelia Island so Sarah, I guess the Cheeca Lodge is out of the question now. We turned in early and missed out on the late night band playing.

So Sunday truly has been a day of rest for our family. After Baxter put a hole through his lip and we got the bleeding to stop, he took a three hour nap. Lillee Grace and I piled up on the couch under her sleeping bag for a nap full of sweat. Something truly is wrong with her excretory glands. Is there such a thing? The king of bloody marys himself made me rub him down with Icy Hot because he and Amy are convinced he has lumbar cancer. This is obviously his excuse to get out of doing more home improvements April has recommended and to sit and watch The Departed while listening to words only men should hear. He claims it's the new Goodfellas.
